Mrs Fraser

Mrs Fraser, 68, lives with her daughter who works part-time as a taxi driver.  She suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Haemophilia, Arthritis and Asbestosis.

Warm Zones surveyed the home, identified that the property could benefit from cavity wall insulation and used the Warm Zones Fund to ensure this could be delivered quickly and free of charge.

The Warm Zones benefits advisor then worked with Mrs Fraser to help her complete an application for Attendance Allowance and referred her for an extra safety handrail from her local social services.  Mrs Fraser was awarded Higher Rate Attendance Allowance, equating to an additional income of £4,280 each year with a one-off arrears payment of £494.  Warm Zones was also able to advise her daughter that in the event that her mother needed more help in future she can consider a claim for Carer’s Allowance and reduce her working hours to help manage this.

Mrs Fraser is now enjoying much greater peace of mind, with additional income to help support her needs, and ensure she can afford to heat her home. This has also reassured her that she will be able to continue to live in her own home for many years to come.

Assisting people like Mrs Fraser and her daughter to access benefits that they are entitled to is an important role that Warm Zones plays and it helps reduce the risk of families becoming fuel poor.
